Week 4

Why is it that children act out with substitutes? I had training two days last week and came back to mass chaos. It turns out that two parents called the principal for things that went on in the classroom while I was gone. I just don't get it! Is it the change in discipline or the idea that a new teacher is in the class so they want to test them? Anyway, long story short, I decided it's hard to reprimand students for what they do with substitutes. How do I know what the sub told them and how do I know what kind of day they were having when they walked in the room that morning? As a teacher, I develop a relationship with my students to know whether they had a hard morning or if their morning was the same as every other day!

For the first time last week, I finally felt a connection to my students. Even though they are a work in progress, I find myself standing up for them when a comment is made by another staff member. After all, they are MY students and what they do and how they act is a reflection of me, their teacher.

I'm really looking forward to the holiday coming up. I need a real break away from school stuff and and adult weekend where I am free to be myself. I have a true appreciation for the adults in my life. Adult interaction is something that all teachers cherish especially after spend 40 hrs/week with 7 & 8 year olds.

I have to say, I am so thankful to ALL of the help my Aunt Kris has given me. She has been absolutely amazing! I am in awe when she teaches. She captures my attention! I can only hope to one day be as amazing as she is with my students. She is a true inspiration and I am so thankful to have her as my mentor.
